Academies of Engineering, which exist as a school-within-a-school, stand alone school or small learning community in public high schools nationally, are organized as a career-themed small learning communities.

The Academies are based on the National Academy Foundation’s Academy Development Model and designed to deliver the Project Lead The Way “Pathway to Engineering” high school curriculum. Additionally, the Academies leverage industry partnerships and postsecondary transition supports of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering to open pathways to engineering to underrepresented (African American, American Indian and Latino) youth, in our nation’s urban centers and other appropriate educational settings around the United States.

Academies of Engineering offer 9th – 12th grade students a solid academic foundation, adhering to national and state standards in mathematics, science, technology, communication, and social studies.  Its courses support a broad technical core, equipping students to pursue specialization in postsecondary engineering and engineering technology degree programs.
